6) HOUSTON HIGH – A.M. 7:00 – 11:30 & (P.M. 11:30 – 3:00 credit recovery)
7) MILLINGTON HIGH – A.M. 7:00 – 11:30 & (P.M. 12:00 – 3:00 credit recovery)

Tuition:
1) Courses for one (1) unit of credit $320.00
2) Courses for one-half (1/2) unit of credit $160.00

Make Up Time:
1) PER 1.5 HOURS $ 30.00

Cash, cashier’s check or money order payable to Shelby County Board of Education. Also, credit by Visa or
MasterCard will be accepted. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

2) FIRST SEMESTER:
• June 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, July 1, 2
3) SECOND SEMESTER:
• July 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30

There will be two ten-minute breaks during each class.

The above schedule allows for a total of 133 hours of instruction per credit earned. Students must be aware that summer school
credit of less than 133 hours of instructional time WILL NOT be accepted by Shelby County Schools.

Unless the student has been granted a waiver, Shelby County students MUST have a 3.0 GPA to enroll in a new required regular
course. Students not regularly enrolled in Shelby County Schools must bring an official letter of permission from their school to
register. The letter must state the course(s) the student is expected to take.

Course (credit) Recovery will be available at some schools. Please see school counselor for available courses. Course (credit)
Recovery coursework can only be allowed for students who have failed the course. Student must register for Course Recovery at
the school where they will attend. Students may register for other courses at any location.

No Backbacks/Bookbags Starting Thursday

Beginning on Thursday, May 21st, students will not be permitted to bring backpacks or bookbags to school with them. Students should turn in any books that they do not need to use to study for exams. Turning in books is strictly optional, and students may keep the books until their final exam day if they would like. Students will not be permitted to board SCS buses with bookbags or backpacks beginning on Thursday, May 21st.

Graduation Information

Graduation practice is REQUIRED! No excuses, no exceptions. Practice will be on Thursday, May 21st from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church. If you are late for graduation practice, you may not be able to participate in commencement.

Remember that you must clear all school debts by Tuesday, May 19th in Ms. Lightfoot’s office. Fines for books, uniforms, summer school or any debt to SCS must be cleared in order to participate in graduation.

NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Only cash or money orders will be accepted as payments for financial obligations.

All students should use entrance #3 to the gym practice area.
Students should be in their graduation seats in the practice hall at 10:00.

See Ms. Werner if there is concern over the pronunciation of your name.

The class president, valedictorian, and salutatorian will practice speeches after the general class practice.

Graduation Day

Commencement is Thursday, May 21st at 7:00 P.M. You should be at the church by 6:00 and report to your homeroom section in the gym practice area. Do not be late!

Wear your caps and gowns to the church. Under the gowns wear the following:

Ladies must wear a dress, which does not show below the gown or dark slacks. Wear shoes, dark in color and secure for safety. You will go up and down several stairs.

Gentlemen must wear dark pants, a light shirt with tie, dark dress shoes, and dark socks.

NO additional shawls, ropes, pins, lei of flowers, etc. may be worn during graduation ceremony. Only the MCHS National Honor Society and National Beta Members will wear honor shawls or special tassels.

You will not be permitted to march should you select inappropriate dress such as sneakers, blue jeans, sandals, etc. Senior sponsors will check for proper attire.

Remember graduation is a school function. The school pays for the ceremony and the school allows you to participate. Proper behavior and proper dress are expected if you desire to participate. Seniors, remind your family and friends that this ceremony is a time of dignity and respect. No balloons, gift boxes, air guns, etc, will be allowed in the church. Regular security check is at the church entrance. Please check to see that your parents have received their “letter to parents” which explains these procedures.

No parent or guest will be allowed on the floor level with the graduates for pictures during the ceremony. The aisles in the upper levels will be kept clear at all times during the ceremony.

Holland Studio will photograph every graduate. These proofs will be available on their web site the following week along with the 2009 class picture. Go to www.hollandstudio.net, click on the link for passwords, and enter your school password mchsgrad09 to order a graduation photo if you so desire.

You will have a note card printed with your name to be called for Commencement.
No nicknames! Students will give this name card to the administrator before the announcer’s podium.

The class valedictorian, salutatorian and president will lead the class into the auditorium and then march to their seats on the stage. Remain standing as the class marches in.

After the valedictory speech, students on the stage will return to the floor and join their class. At this point the class will be asked to stand and will formally be presented to the attending board members.

The front row will be signaled to stand. When the valedictorian, salutatorian, and class officers start to the podium, the first row will follow.
As each row receives diploma, watch for your row’s signal to stand. All other class members will repeat and follow.

Upon receiving your diploma cover, return to your seat and remain standing until everyone in your row is ready to be seated. When the fifth person from the end of the preceding row starts across the stage, the next row will be signaled to stand and move to the steps. Be respectful of fellow classmates do not talk and remain focused on the stage as the ceremony continues.

Students who dance, strut, use inappropriate hand gestures, or do anything to degrade the ceremony will be escorted out of the ceremony and will not receive a diploma.

When all class members have received their “diploma cover,” the closing words will be given.

Within 20 minutes after the close of commencement, (long enough to take pictures) graduates should report to their homeroom teacher in the gym practice area and return their gowns. National Honor Society members must return the borrowed pendants to Mr. Price after the ceremony. IF BEHAVIOR HAS BEEN ACCEPTABLE, you will receive a packet containing your diploma, health records, commencement program, and other school records.

Guests in wheelchairs, or handicapping conditions will be seated on the handicap level with a companion accompanying them. The handicap entrance to the church is from the front entrance.

Baccalaureate

MCHS Baccalaureate will be held on Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 PM at Crosspointe Baptist Church in Millington. Seniors who are on schedule to graduated are invited to participate. Seniors must be at the church by 6:00 PM in cap and gown in order to participate in the processional.

Parent-Teacher Conferences/Community Health Fair

On Thursday, March 12th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, MCHS will host Parent-Teacher
Conferences and a concurrent Community Health Fair. Parents and students can
receive basic health screenings, take blood pressure and stress tests, and
visit informational booths to become aware of health-related programs,
services, and providers. Parents should contact their student's teachers to
set up conferences. We hope to see you there!

Free ACT Workshop

Olivet Fellowship Baptist Church is offering a free ACT workshop for
students on Saturday, March 7, 14 and 28 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Check-in and breakfast are from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m.

On March 7, Math and English will be the subjects reviewed
On March 14, Science and Language will be the subjects reviewed
On March 28, Mock Test and Review

Juniors to Take ACT at MCHS

All 11th grade students who are enrolled in an 11th grade homeroom will take
the ACT on Wednesday, April 22 during regular school hours. This test is
being offered free of charge on this special testing date and students do
not have to register for this test. Attendance on this test date is
mandatory and students are encouraged to arrive at school on time to ensure
a smooth transition from homeroom to the testing site.

8th Grade Information Night

MCHS will host 8th Grade Information Night on Thursday, February 19th at
6:00 PM. All incoming 9th graders and their parents are invited to attend
this informational evening and learn more about Millington Central High
School and its academics, clubs, sports, and programs. We look forward to
meeting the Class of '13 and sharing all of the wonderful things that our
school has to offer! The event will be held in the 9th Grade Academy in the
Annex building.

Student Athlete Information Night

Millington Central High School student-athletes who are considering entering
college and continuing their athletic career, along with their parents, are
invited to attend an informational meeting on Monday, February 9 to learn
more about college recruiting and athletic scholarships, Clearinghouse
eligibility requirements, selecting appropriate high school courses, and
NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA guidelines. The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm in the
Multi-Purpose Room (Annex Building).

On the evening of Thursday, November 20th at 7:00 PM, Millington Central High School will host an event that we are calling:

"Millington Matters"
A Community Pep Rally
Sponsored by the MCHS PTSA
Featuring MCHS Alumnus and Former NFL Star Ahmaad Galloway

This is a true "pep rally" that parents and students can attend together, and we will hold it in the Varsity Gym on the MCHS campus. Numerous Trojan student-athletes and scholars will be in attendance and we will celebrate their accomplishments and their promise. In particular we will recognize our repeat Region 7-5A champions (and current playoff contenders) the MCHS Trojan football team as well as look forward to the upcoming basketball season.

We will also learn more about the Millington Central High School PTSA and the role it plays in making our school a better place. Finally, MCHS alum, former University of Alabama great and former NFL star Ahmaad Galloway will deliver an inspirational message about his experiences at MCHS, in college, the NFL, and beyond.

We hope you and your students will participate in this important community event and cheer on your school.

College and Career Night

Over 40 colleges and universities are scheduled to participate in this event that will allow MCHS students (Grades 9-12) and their parents to receive information on college admissions requirements, career & technical programs, military service, scholarships, financial aid and more! This event will take place on Monday, October 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Millington Central High School in the Main Building. Light refreshments will be served.

Student of the Month

Congratulations to the September Student of the Month, senior Charde Terry!
Charde is one of MCHS' top students, and also serves as senior class
president this year. Her many activities along with her outstanding essay
led to her selection.

Thanks to First Citizen's Bank who sponsors the Student of the Month and
opens a savings account with a $50 donation for each student winner.

On Tuesday, September 23rd, Price Ford in Millington will sponsor a "Cruise 4 Your School" event to benefit Millington Central High School. The set-up is simple: For every test drive that happens at Price Ford on September 23rd, MCHS gets $20--period! You do not have to buy a car or go to the dealership with the intention of buying a car. You just have to show up and let the salesperson know you would like to test drive a car for MCHS. We can raise up to $6000 on that day if 300 people are willing to stop in and take a brief test drive. PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO SUPPORT MCHS IN THIS EVENT! The dealership will be open from 6:30 AM until 9:00 PM. All drivers must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver's license.

Homecoming Spirit Week Festivities 2008

Dress-up days
Monday – Twin day
Tuesday – 80's day
Wednesday – Incognito day (Hide your identity from the paparazzi with
glasses, wigs, etc.)
Thursday – Class colors (Seniors, green; Juniors, pink; Sophomores, orange; Freshmen, white)
Friday – Black & Gold day

Spirit links sold each day in 1st period for 10 cents each. The class with the most spirit gets a donut party. Chains will be collected on Friday and used to decorate the football field.

Door Decorating contest. Fourth period classes will compete for the most unique and the most school spirited door decorations. Keep in mind the theme is Hollywood Nights and our opponent is the Collierville Dragons. The winning fourth period class will receive a pizza party.

Thursday after school is the annual Powder Puff football game between the senior girls and the junior girls. Admission to the game is only $1.00 at the gate. Game time is 2:45.

Friday afternoon we will have a pep rally in preparation for the big
Homecoming football game Friday night against Collierville at 7:00.

Saturday night is the celebratory Homecoming dance at 8:00pm in the back gym. This year's theme is Hollywood Nights, so put on your glitz and glamour. We'll provide the lights and the camera while you bring the action. Advance tickets may be purchased in the cafeteria for $10 during all lunches on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Homecoming week. No tickets will be sold at the door. The dance is from 8:00 to 11:00 PM

Trojan Athletes Going Strong!

The Trojan varsity football team continued its success with a win over the Arlington Tigers last Friday. The Lady Trojans soccer team is now 4-0. The Lady Trojans volleyball team continues to show improvement in hard fought matches. The Trojan golf and cross country teams are also representing our school well. Go Trojans!

CELL PHONE POLICY - SCS Board of Education

Student cell phones must be stored in a locked locker or in student's vehicle during school hours, 7AM - 2PM.

Any cell phones or other electronic devises (including MP3 players) which are confiscated by a teacher or administrator may be picked up by a parent or guardian on the next Monday morning between 7:30 and 8:30 am.
